Also known as "Fat Freezing", Cryolipolysis, Cryothermy, Coolsculpting or non-surgical liposuction is a non-invasive, evidence-based  permanent fat reduction treatment to contour and sculpt the body. The medical term, Cryolipolysis describes the process of using controlled cooling to target and kill isolated fat cells in areas of fat on the body. In the weeks that follow the treatment,  your body will naturally process the fat and eliminate the dead cells forever.

How does cryolipolysis compare to liposuction?

• It´s a safe procedure; liposuction can destroy nerves, blood vessels and surrounding tissue.

• It is less traumatic than liposuction so there is significantly less bruising and swelling.

• It requires no anaesthetic avoiding the potential complications associated with a general anaesthetic that is often required for a liposuction procedure.

• It can have the additional benefit of skin tightening and improving the appearance of stretch marks which often does not occur with other forms of liposuction or body reshaping.

• It can be performed on large or small areas and multiple areas can be targeted in one procedure.

• It can target fat cells very close to the skin’s surface, unlike liposuction, so it produces fantastic results in more delicate areas such as the underarms and chin.

Small and single areas can be treated with 1 handle attachment like lower abdomen. Areas like flanks and upper back need 2 handle attachments.

What can I expect immediately after Cryolipolysis treatment?

Immediately after treatment the skin may look red and bruised and may feel tender to touch. To reduce the redness and erythema of the skin, we gently massage the treatment area directly after the Cryolipolysis session has finished. 

Typical daily activities can be resumed straight after treatment, including returning to work immediately and exercise regimes. Continuing a healthy lifestyle is key alongside these treatments to ensure that optimum body contouring results are achieved. There is no complicated aftercare following Cryolipolysis treatments although we recommend:

• Exercise - aim for a minimum of 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercise 3 times weekly

• Drink plenty of water - aim for 6-8 glasses daily

• Avoid excessive alcohol consumption

• Resume your daily activities

• Monitor your measurements

• Photograph the treatment areas weekly

How many areas can be treated?

The handles allow two body areas to be treated simultaneously improving efficiency and optimizing the systems' advanced technology in fat freezing for quicker body contouring results. 1 or 2 body areas can be treated within one hour and 3 or 4 areas in a two-hour session.

For maximum results, we recommend a course of three treatments; a minimum waiting time of around four weeks is advised between treatment of the same body area.  A maximum of four areas of the body can be treated within one month. This is to reduce the risk of overloading the metabolic capabilities of the liver and kidneys during the process of fat elimination.

Common side effects:

• redness and firmness

• pinching sensation and minor swelling

• tenderness  and bruising

• stinging and tingling

• numbness and skin sensitivity

• mild to moderate pain

• muscle cramping and itchiness

These can persist for weeks for some.

Who cannot be treated?

People with weakened immune systems are not ideal candidates. People with certain conditions that weaken or change the body's ability to handle the cold can also experience serious medical complications.

Conditions that rule out the use of cryolipolysis include:

• pregnancy, attempting to become pregnant, and breast-feeding

• cryoglobulinemia, a disorder where proteins that usually only increase in response to cold are in abnormally high concentrations

• cold agglutinin disease, an autoimmune condition where temperature change kills red blood cells

• paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, a condition where red blood cells die in response to temperature change. 

• chilblains

• Reynaud's Disease

• reduced circulation or skin sensation at the treatment area

• nerve conditions, such as diabetic neuropathy

• skin conditions related to the immune system, such as eczema and psoriasis

• inflammatory skin conditions, such as dermatitis.

• a recent injury to the skin area being treated

• long-term use of blood thinning medications

• bleeding conditions that thin the blood

• history of a hernia or a hernia in or near the treatment area

• active, implanted medical devices, such as pacemakers

• allergy to propylene glycol or isopropyl alcohol

• chronic pain conditions

• severe anxiety disorders
